Graham Field – A view of the world through the eyes of a solo traveller

Graham Field is a compulsive traveller, with a compelling manner of honesty and a healthy sense of humour.

Travel on his mind, bikes in his blood and little in his wallet, Graham's low budget journeys, viewed with humour and honesty have inspired many to hit the road in search of their dreams. Or how one little comment on a TV game show, turned an already nomadic life into a low budget lifestyle of motorcycle travel.

Graham is a solo traveller at heart. With his observations and occasional relations, he takes you along to Mongolia, Iraq, the Arctic Circle and many other distant destinations. With a life time of travel anecdotes and hard-earned wisdom, Graham's view of the planet is unique and contagious.

Graham is the author of three books, which he's recently recorded as audiobooks. He was twice nominated as 'Most Inspiring Adventure Rider' by Adventure Bike TV. Graham is also a resident co-host on Adventure Rider Radio RAW together with Sam Manicom and Grant Johnson of Horizons Unlimited. He is a columnist for ABTV and writes articles for various publications worldwide.

Itchy Boots – on a Royal Enfield Himalayan through India, Central-Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond…

In August 2018, Noraly decided to quit her job, sell her house and motorbike, and to travel indefinitely. After a few months of backpacking in India and Bangladesh, she decided to rent a motorcycle in India for a few weeks. After three weeks of traveling in the Himalayas, she was sold. Traveling by motorbike, that was what she wanted to do from now on.

So she bought a Royal Enfield in Delhi, arranged the paperwork and decided to drive from India to Malaysia. A nice trip of 11,000 kilometers, but this was by no means enough! She thought it would be nice to ship her motorcycle to Oman. This was the start of new adventures through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and a few other 'Stans' eventually ending up in the Caucasus via Russia. From there it went further west back to Europe.

But here too her adventure does not end! The Netherlands is only a stopover before traveling further. Next stage goes from Patagonia to Alaska. Another stretch to look forward to!

At Discover Overland 2019 Noraly will tell about her adventures so far. How do you cross borders with a motorbike on Indian license plate that is not even registered in your own name? What is it like for a blonde woman to travel alone through the Middle East and Central Asia?

Noraly makes a video of every 'motorcycling day' on her trip. You can follow her on her YouTube channel Itchy Boots.

Moto Morgana – Africa and the Americas with Tom and Caroline

After various shorter motorbike trips, through Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Iran, Iceland, Morocco, Namibia and many other countries, it became undeniably clear that Tom and Caroline had some serious motorcycle adventure travel blood running through their veins. So Caroline wasn’t all that surprised when Tom made up a plan to go travel for ‘just that little bit longer’.

They love to take you on their adventure that in the end took a 2 full years. At first they rode their brand new Husky 701 enduros through Africa, mainly along the west coast. They then shipped their bikes to South America, crossed the Americas from Argentina to Alaska and finally traveled the States from west to east.

They would love you to get excited about traveling by telling you about the crazy border crossing games, about the life among the locals, the dilemma of on vs off road, wild camping on the most beautiful spots on earth, the day-to-day vagabond life – no clock or stress around – and off course the many ‘ooooohs’ and ‘aaaaahs’ when they discover once more what this magnificent world has to offer.

So get ready for numerous anecdotes and pictures and be prepared for adding a few more items to your bucket lists!

Martin Brucker – On the way (Auf dem Weg) Part 2

From Ushuaia, Argentina up to Dead Horse, Alaska. Crossing Russia, Mongolia and Central Asia back to Germany - 3 1/2 years on the way home.

Martin Brucker traveled from March 2010 to October 2016 around the world on his trusty BMW G650 Xchallenge. He covered about 255.067km crossing about 70 countries "On The Way" to his home in the Black Forest, Germany.

Martin Brucker travelled the world for 6 1/2 years, crossing about 70 countries through all continents. It took him three years all the way down south to Ushuaia in Argentina - the southernmost village in the world. At Discover Overland 2018, he presented his three year journey from Germany to Ushuaia, Argentina.

This year Martin will be back to talk about the second part of his trip back home to Germany. 3 1/2 years on the way home: his presentation will start in Ushuaia, Argentina. He takes you all the way up through the Americas and Cuba to Dead Horse in Alaska. Riding back south to Gibson at the Sunshine Coast near Vancouver where he stayed for the Winter. In March 2016 he shipped his motorcycle over to Vladivostok, Russia heading west crossing Russia, Mongolia, Kirgistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Baltic States back to Germany.

Along the road, Martin had to deal with some obstacles. He dislocated his shoulder in a crash in the rain forest in the north of Argentina. He lost half of a tooth while eating a pizza in La Paz, Bolivia which ended in a rood-canal treatment. He had some clutch problems in Argentina and had to replace his cam chain in Panama City and he encountered some bear and moose in Canada and Alaska. Martin will tell you all about this in his presentation at Discover Overland 2019.

Benno & Thecla: with an old Royal Enfield through Africa

Benno and Thecla got the travel bug hitchhiking short distances in the Zaan area in Holland. One time, they got idea the idea to go and stick their thumb out on the other side of the road. The world lay open! Seven months hitchhiking later they arrived in Damascus.

Their next challenge was on the motorbike, an old Royal Enfield. Via Algeria they managed to cross the Sahara. All of a sudden and completely by surprise, they found themselves in West Africa. Via the Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, they made their way through to Central Africa, through the rain forests of Congo via Uganda and Kenya to Tanzania. 22,000 km from home.

But with that, their hunger for the open road was not satisfied. After 29,000 km through Canada, Alaska, the US and Mexico and another 9 months and 31,000 km through South America, Thecla wanted to see Namibia and Benno Ethiopia. In their presentation they tell you all about their last journey from the southern tip of Africa back to their roots in Noord-Holland. A 43,000 km long adventure through the African continent with their old trusted Royal Enfield.

We’re on the road to nowhere: René and Corine traveled through North, Central and South America

René and Corine left for Alaska in June 2018. The plan: to ride their Triumph Tiger 800 and Explorer 1200 in one year all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina. Together they traveled to many corners of the world: motorbike trips through Europe or backpacking on other continents. However, discovering the American continent on their own motorbikes was a completely new experience. Despite 30 years of motorbike experience, they now faced completely new challenges.

In this presentation, they take you along on their 40,000 km trip. They share their experiences of the past year and show you their preparations before setting off. Insurance, negative travel advice, border crossings, roadblocks, natural disasters, Spanish  language challenges, engine maintenance, transport and flights, budgeting and challenging road surfaces. You can discover it all during their presentation. Join them on their journey through the beautiful nature and culture of the Americas and their meetings with very hospitable and fantastic people.

André van Huizen: Africa and South America in a self-built LandCruiser

André van Huizen has been traveling to all corners of this globe for more than 30 years. In 2001 he bought a LandCruiser and with that he traveled to Iceland. 5 years later, in 2006, the trip of a lifetime started: in 6 trips of 2 months each, he traveled to Cape Town. From there he made seven more trips through southern Africa. In 2013 the cruiser came back to the Netherlands by container, where André simply cut the bodywork through the middle and built a completely new camper unit. A number of idiosyncratic choices made the LandCruiser a unique expedition camper that in the meantime made two half-year trips in South America.

André will show two short compilation films and he will also tell you a few things about the construction of the camper.

Joost and Marijke on the road – Iran Overland 2016

Joost and Marijke travel by 4x4 since 2009. During previous trips to Chile and Botswana they became infected with the 4x4 virus. Such a car will take you just that little bit further off the beaten track and closer to nature. Initially they bought a Landcruiser HZJ75 that was converted as a camper. With this car they traveled to South America for a 5-month trip.

In 2012, Joost and Marijke exchanged the Landcruiser for a Toyota Hilux with an Exkab camper unit: their 5-star hotel on wheels. In 2016 they traveled to Iran , Armenia and Georgia. These countries have enormously surprised them in a positive way. Everything you hear about Iran in the media can not be reconciled with the hospitality you meet there. Georgia has also positively surprised them: beautiful nature, hospitable people, rugged roads and wonderful wild camping.

Despite their busy jobs, Joost and Marijke manage to travel for a few months every few years. An absolute privilege. This gives them the opportunity to explore countries that they do not really know. Next year they plan a 4-month trip to Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

During Discover Overland Joost and Marijke tell you why it is worth traveling to Iran!

Sjaak Lucassen – R1 World Tour

In 2001 I took off for a trip around the world on a Yamaha R1. How long? “3 Years,” I told the ones that expected an answer. "As long as I need", I had in my mind. It became 5 years and 5 months, traveling with “time as my friend” through 75 countries, riding 250,000 kilometres. An unbelievable experience with beautiful encounters and breathtaking landscapes.
At Discover Overland 2018 I will tell all about my trip. You can expect: Passage on a cocaine boat • Blasting dynamite in Bolivia • Crossing the Sahara • A motorcycle as hand luggage in a Russian plane • Speed record on the world’s largest salt lake • Stalin’s Road of Bones • River crossing in a dugout • In love with a Venezuelan beauty. All performed with a great sense of humour, enlivened with videos and photos.

Nancy, Guido and their dog Senja – North-America

In 2014, Nancy, Guido and their dog Senja visited a presentation about shipping your own car to North America. Wow, how cool would that be! But, how to arrange that? And what would it cost? How does is work, flying with a dog? After finding the answers to almost all of their questions, in 2017 they ship their car to North America for a 6 month road trip: from Halifax to Fairbanks, then via the east coast and a bit inland to Houston. A great adventure, that left them want for more. A great continent for wild camping, overwhelming and diverse scenery, very friendly and helpful people and very dog friendly.

Making a nice fire, fishing, pancakes in the morning, camping with fellow travellers or by our own on the greatest spots, seeing wild life, inhaling fresh air, doing the laundry, into the mountain, witnessing the Northern Lights, telling storing and listening to other traveller’s stories, Walmart, enjoying each other’s company, Senja who is probably in over 1,000 photo books, making friends, celebrating Thanksgiving and going to a casino in Las Vegas wíth the dog.
