Mo – On the Road with Ibnelharti

One year ago Mohamed El Harti set off from Morocco on his trusty 125cc C100, chasing a dream: to ride all the way from Nordkapp to Cape Town.

In just a year he’s already covered 25,000 km across 30+ countries—riding through floods in Valencia, braving the freezing cold in Turkey, and celebrating the magic of reaching Nordkapp.

His bike may have broken down plenty of times, but it’s never let him down.

At Discover Overland you’ll get to hear his inspiring journey firsthand in “On the Road with Ibnelharti.”

Arvids – Western Africa

Together with a friend, Arvids set off on two Norden 901s to tackle the toughest part of the West Coast of Africa: from Ghana to Angola.
That meant 5,500 km of rainforest riding, from good roads to bad roads to no roads at all. Along the way they discovered the unexpected sides of Togo and Benin, camped everywhere from wild bush to monasteries, and learned to live with strange food (while still dreaming of better coffee).
Come hear their story at Discover Overland.

Jep on Track aka Kris – From couch to adventure

A few years ago, Kris had little reason to feel cheerful. Struggling with Lyme disease and ignoring her own heart had left her unable to do much more than move between the couch and her bed.

Now, Kris shares her story of struggle, resilience, and how she discovered the world—and her best life—through travel.

Her journey starts in the Netherlands, but quickly takes her far beyond: trekking through Jordan with a donkey, walking over 1,000 km in Georgia, paddling a canoe through Sweden, cycling across Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia, and hiking with two llamas in Peru before roaming through Bolivia and Brazil. She eventually found herself in New Zealand and then in the Rocky Mountains of the USA, travelling with mules and horses.

At Discover Overland, Kris will take us along on this remarkable path of healing and adventure.

Hans and Erica – Best2West

After years of dreaming, planning, and waiting for the pandemic to pass, Hans & Erica  started their motorcycle trip from Alaska to Ushuaia… and beyond!

Asphalt and gravel, wild camping and luxury hotels, highs and lows, cold and hot, we've had it all along the way. We covered a journey of almost 60,000 km on our motorcycles in 14 months, 25 countries, 4 continents and many challenges, but surprisingly few motorcycle problems along the way.

During the presentation we want to take the audience with us on how we came to this journey and a small bit of preparation, then take them on our travel adventure through all countries and finally that the 'homecoming ride' became a lot longer than originally planned.

Sippie and Klaas Buwalda – Skilpapaise

Some people take a sabbatical to travel for a year, but when traveling is your way of life, a sabbatical means coming home for a bit.

Sippie and Klaas left in October 2017 for an indefinite trip. They are now back in The Netherlands for a bit and will give a presentation at Discover Overland.

They will give you an insight into 5.5 years of traveling, of which 4 years in South America with a 4x4 toyota hilux, looking for beautiful routes, with the occasional (near) crash and a car with 'long covid'. Pictures of lesser-known areas & routes included!

Henriette Thiim – For the love of wheels

Henriette For the love of wheels

In 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, Henriette took off on her Honda CRF250L on what was supposed to be a one-year solo ride from North Cape to South Africa and back. But nothing went as planned. She got stuck in Morocco for six months and had to change her route repeatedly as borders closed and rules for entry were constantly changed. The adventure grew, and before she knew it, she had spent 3 years riding her Honda CRF250L 100.000 km on three continents through 45 countries including Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Henriette talks about camping with elephants, being stuck in the mud in South Africa and the darker moments, and about dealing with Malaria in Tanzania. She also talks about her motivation for traveling alone, dealing with fears, fixing her bike in the middle of nowhere, and why she loves life on the road in foreign countries.

Egle Gerulaityte – 8 Years in South America, from 150cc to chasing dakar

Egle

In 2013 while backpacking Peru, Egle learned to ride a bike with the help of a passing rider. Bought a 150cc bike in Nazca, and took off to ride South America for two years covering the Peru-Tierra del Fuego-Colombia route with little clue, no experience, and no gear.

Hopelessly hooked on adventure riding and South America since, Egle returned there a few years later to travel the continent on her DR650, lead motorcycle tours, and chase the Dakar Rally up close and personal.

Whether you're a seasoned traveller or someone who's just starting out, Egle might have a tip or two about travelling South America and surviving the Andes Mountains - on a 150cc as well as a 650cc.
